One of the things which I love about SME is that some aspects can be automated to bring traffic (e.g. Auto-Tweeting of upcoming events on your site) , while other (perhaps more interactive) aspects of SME may require some intervention and management. (SEO + SME) > (SEO)!

I think SEO has advantages over SMO.The reason i am telling this because when someone is looking for something may be a product or may be a service,he will definitely search it in a search engine not a Social media site.Social media sites come into existance recently and lot of young generation are using it for their social bonding. I agrre there are sites like linkedin and Twitter where professionals are also working but it is more of SEO which will help promote your website.

The first thing which attract me is the title of your post. A really interesting name but which covers everything. Yes it is true without using the advantage of Social Book marking and Social networking site we cannot promote our website. But the major problem we are now facing in SM sites are:

They are adding rel=”nofollow” to the links. But even though it is a npofollow link if it can convert a good traffic ,that is cool.

So far i haven’t had too much luck with SMO. I’ve heard of people getting huge traffic from sites like stumbleupon but so far ive gotten almost all of my traffic from search engines. I do agree that it is becoming more important though, twitter is becoming huge I just haven’t been able to use sites like it to create traffic yet. Plus having your link on social media sites can help with SEO cause I’m sure they are crawled regularly.
