What’s the Yahoo-Bing deal means for SEO Industry ?
The deal announced between Microsoft’s Bing and Yahoo! says that Yahoo! is getting out of the search business and will include Microsoft’s Bing engine into all of its services. What’s going to change for the field of search engine optimization after this Yahoo and Bing deal ? Thus its going to make any significance changes or not. This is a big question!
Is this the start of huge changes in internet search supremacy?
The key points of the Microsoft – Yahoo Deal: From Microsoft’s press release
- The term of the agreement is 10 years;
- Microsoft will acquire an exclusive 10 year license to Yahoo!’s core search technologies, and Microsoft will have the ability to integrate Yahoo! search technologies into its existing Web search platforms;
- Microsoft’s Bing will be the exclusive algorithmic search and paid search platform for Yahoo! sites. Yahoo! will continue to use its technology and data in other areas of its business such as enhancing display advertising technology;
- Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers. Self-serve advertising for both companies will be fulfilled by Microsoft’s AdCenter platform, and prices for all search ads will continue to be set by AdCenter’s automated auction process;
- Each company will maintain its own separate display advertising business and sales force;
- Yahoo! will innovate and “own” the user experience on Yahoo! properties, including the user experience for search, even though it will be powered by Microsoft technology;
- Microsoft will compensate Yahoo! through a revenue sharing agreement on traffic generated on Yahoo!’s network of both owned and operated (O&O) and affiliate sites;
The agreement does not cover:
- Web properties and products,
- email, instant messaging,
- display advertising,
- or any other phase of the companies’ businesses.
As far as SEO goes, a lot of matter is still up in the air. If this deal goes through, what’s going to happen to…
- Yahoo! Directory (a fantastic link source)
- Yahoo! link data (best free public source)
- Yahoo! SearchMonkey & BOSS
- Yahoo!’s paid inclusion
It may possible that all four of them go away.
How frightening is this? There are already rumors that Microsoft’s new Bing search engine will change the way we all have to approach SEO . Well its to early to say anything. According to yahoo it can take upto 2 years for full implementation of deal, so there is time. Thus, the best strategy is to get prepared to encash all the oppoutunity when the deal get live.

Thank you for post.
I have to say that this is all more of the same – now we’ll have two Google and a bad market for search competition.
The only thing that makes me feel better this week is seeing old time players like Infospace sweeping into the search realm again with what looks to be an actually impressive search site that includes Twitter and a very unique organization of metasearch.

Yahoo + MS will have some effect on internet marketing and SEO but I don’t think the duo will be able to arrest Google. It will make Google more better. Also I noticed that one of my other website which was performing excellent in yahoo has just vanished and I have not a single clue about it…why???
Nice post anyway.
Well someone needs to put a stop to all the madness, Google thinks they run everything and I’m sick of it. You can’t even advertise on a relevant website without them thinking that you are there to just to buy page rank. I’m glad that Yahoo and Microsoft are doing this, in the end I think they will come out on top, more and more people are starting to realize that Google is just a big internet bully and therefore someone need to put them in their place for a change.
